A centre drill is a hand-held tool used to drill holes in metal, wood or plastic. It consists of a cylindrical shank with a sharp point on one end and a freely rotating spur, which is used as a cutting tool, on the other. The trigger is mounted on the end of a shaft which passes through the tool's body at right angles to its axis. The centre drill is turned by hand in the direction that it is desired to advance it into the workpiece. The cutting edge of the spur then bites into the workpiece and turns it while simultaneously pushing forward. The cutting action takes place along a plane perpendicular to this plane and along its axis. This results in a hole that self-taps itself as it advances into the material being drilled
A centre drill is a drill bit used to make pilot holes for other drill bits, such as spade bits and twist drills. Its small, conical tip allows the training to be inserted into a workpiece without damaging it or creating splinters. The centre drill can also be used in place of a brad point bit when making holes for screws or nails
A centre drill is a tool used to drill a hole through the centre of a workpiece. It differs from other exercises in that it has an adjustable head that allows the user to set the hole size by moving the drill bit closer or further away from the workpiece. The closer the bit is to the material being worked, the smaller will be the resulting hole. The farther away from the piece being performed, the more prominent will be the resulting hole
